(almost) ready

We had a physical weekend.

On Saturday, we weeded like crazy, cut off tired summer plants, even raked fallen leaves for the first time for this autumn. (Are we officially in autumn?!) My hubby took two truck loads of compost to the compost center nearby.

On Sunday, I stained the garden gate. I thought it would be a 2-hour job but it actually took me more than a half day to finish. And I was not fond of the color. It is even harder to paint if you do not like the color so much…sigh.

While I was painting outside, my hubby was busy inside fixing a drainage problem with baking soda and white vinegar, vacuuming the entire house including all the bents for the heater, and even did a whole bunch of laundry to clean couch covers, throws and cushion covers.

We also decorated the house with small arts and knickknacks here and there. The reason we worked so hard was…his parents are visiting us from UK!! They are coming this week. It’s their first visit to our home. Pressure is on!

Today, hubby is in Van so I am alone at home. I fixed the living room, cleaned my desk, added a leaf to the dining table, prepared everything they would need in their bathroom and made an itinerary for them. But the biggest task tonight was to print out photos of the four of us from the trip to NY last year. We realized that we do not have any photos of them in our house and it was my job to pick two images, print them out and put them in a frame.

We have recently changed our printer. I had to find a manual first to find where the feeder for photo papers was. (Do you think I am stupid and totally useless? Due to the too clean look, you would not be able to even spot the feeders at first glance!) The start-up manual was pretty useless so I had to go to the website and download a manual. I found a feeder in rear thanks to the manual, set a paper, and pressed the print button. It started, but it did not feed from the feeder I wanted. The image was printed on an A4 paper. I canceled the job. Damn. Next, I removed all the papers from the other feeder and tried it again. The printer said ‘no paper’.

Okay, even with that manual I downloaded the information was limited so I had to download an on-screen manual. I’m running out a space on my poor old mac! The on-screen manual taught me how to specify a feeder. I set a paper and finally, it printed out from the right feeder. But, the image was not scale to fit… I checked the photo and made sure to click ‘Scale to fit’ box. I tried it again. It did the same thing. The image was not scaled so only our bodies were in the photo…how sad.

I only had three trial photo papers for the new printer and the two of them were already gone. I had to have some colorful words and read the stupid manuals again and again. After all, I came to realization that I had to set a paper size for each photo (nothing to do with the printer setting). Ouch. I managed to print out a nice photo with the last precious free photo paper. But the photo frame holds two photos…!

I found a nice card to put in the frame together with our photo. Now it is set on a shelf together with other photos. Phew. I think we are almost ready. Cannot wait!!
